SHIDLER, AMERICA

Y'all. You heard me right, I'm bustin' out the 'y'all' today for this post.
It's necessary.
Last week while at the ranch, we met up with SP's best friend and his wife, the very same darling couple we hit the slopes with this year.
On our way to dinner, I pointed out that there was a 'sign' for a bar in the small town we passed through leaving the ranch. In Shidler, America there is a new 'bar' - marked by a pallet with purple spray paint:
R E D N E C K S   &   R H I N E S T O N E S
So while at dinner, we decided we would give the ol' bar a try.
Y'all: with us there were a total of 10 people in the bar.
Including the owner, who brings his two dogs into the bar with him.
There was a Jukebox - a pricey one at that, $0.50 per song!
And $2.50 cold beers- the only drink of choice.
Two pool tables, $0.75 per game.
And of course smoking allowed.
Here is a little peak into the bar.. I know, it looks so crowded, right?!
SP and I ran the table a few times- yeah, we're good like that!
The owners sweet yellow lab : guarding the bar.
But really just taking any of the 'lovins' he can get!

So, y'all, as you can tell Shilder, America is hoppin' and packin in the crowds on a Friday night.
Not sure we will be back, but sure can say we had a large time!

A RANCH PICNIC

there are so many wonderful places around the ranch - its hard to pick a favorite. but today i am sharing our favorite picnic spot with you.
on monday i went along with sp to feed a few pastures of cattle, and since it was going to be a few hours and it wasn't close to the house, i said i would go and open gates, and help count, if at the end we could stop for a picnic, take the four-wheeler out and make an afternoon of it.

so thats just what we did!
we loaded up the trailer with the four-wheeler, packed a picnic and went on a forest adventure after sp was done working for the day.
this  might be the biggest oak tree i ever did see!
the gentleman who used to own this property made a picnic spot under this very tree! it used to have a few benches just next to the perfect swimming hole - tree swing and all.
if you look closely, you can see the tree swing hanging on the right branch.
the branch has since died, and the picnic spot is not in the form it used to be in, but theres still something calming and serene about this spot.
my handsome lunch date :)
we packed a simple lunch, sandwiches, chips and homemade brownies sp's mom sent us home with after sunday supper the night before! and of course an ice-cold dr. pepper!
there are not many signs of spring around the ranch just yet... its still quit chilly during the days and has dropped below freezing a few nights a week this march. but we found the first signs of spring when we spotted these pretty purple blooms trying to prove that spring is just around the corner!

these next two pictures make me laugh so hard every time i look at them!!!
like i mentioned, we went on a 4-wheeler adventure in the forest after lunch and here is some of our findings....
here is what i found!!
and here is what sp found!!!
i love afternoon adventures like these with my love.
no cell phones (mainly because there is no reception!!), quality time, and a little quiet time with the Lord when you get to be submerged in this amazing thing called nature, in its raw, beautiful and untouched state with not another soul around for miles!

oh, and of course there was a little nature-yoga :)
here is me (all bundled up) holding a crow-pose on a big rock in the middle of the creek!!

SUNDAY FUNDAY

this past sunday sp and I took the afternoon to enjoy the outdoors and nurture our love-language 'quality time'. no cell phones, no watches, just the sounds of nature, crisp spring air and outdoor adventures together.
first stop was this huge tree that had fallen over a dry creek bed- ofcourse it called for some yoga poses!
sp, who has never done yoga, is mastering a dancers pose like a pro:)

i love a good shadow picture--- however when your bundled up like 'michelin-men' because its not quite spring at the ranch.. the shadow pictures look more like marshmallow pictures ;)
i stopped to take this pictures, because i thought it looks like a giant wishbone!
and this sweet readers, is a true #SundaySelfie.
raw
no make up
unruly hair
but cheese-balls for days!
your welcome.
(or more like, i'm sorry!!!)
when you wear bog boots tall enough to tread through water, you tread through water.
boys like to see just how far they can go before it hits the top of their boots.. sp likes doing the same!
its even more fun, when the water is so clear, you forget your even in water and looking for pretty rocks and creek mussels!

if your following me on instagram, you saw the winning picture from #sundayFunday!!

MUSTANGS AND BLOG UPDATES

there is just something about these wild mustangs i cannot get enough of.
when i am at the ranch, i always look forward to riding along in the truck and heading out to feed and count the wild mustangs, at least once during a visit.
even if it means opening and closing the gates along the way!

driving into a pasture and watching these beautiful mustangs run in from all corners is fascinating.
once they see or hear the truck, its like the dinner bell goes off and they come running as fast as they can to get their first! now, from some of the pictures your might be able to see some of the mustangs have their ears back... they are full of energy with a little side of mean-ness. reminder, therese mustangs are completely wild, not an ounce of tame in their body! so they will 'fight', kick, bite and stomp to make it to the feed first.

hope you enjoy these pictures- they make me smile just looking back at them!

on another note...
have you seen the pretty new changes on the blog, in particular the side bar?!

FRESH, FUZZY AND FULL OF LIFE

f i r s t : happy halloween!
s e c o n d : meet these cute babies!!!
its that time of year at the ranch.... mammas are having fall babies!
look at these little cuties - they are so curious and full of life, almost instantly after birth.
every morning the cowboys have to feed the mammas and check for new babies born over night.
yesterday i went out with them to check on the mommas and there was a new addition.. this cute little bull was still sticky and wobbly but cute as could be!

after catching the little guy, they are giving a name (ear tag with mom and dad information)
they are measured, just like babies and then left back with their mamma to get back to nursing and playing around.
sometimes these little guys are hard to spot. when they lay down in the tall grass, they disappear - but the mamma will always go back and find her little one right where she left him or her. they know their babies cry just like humans.
to date 16 little have been born- only a few more weeks and all the fall babies will have arrived!
they are just the cutest- the little ones run and play around together, cant wait to see all of the fall babies

BEATING THE BOYS

its been a few days since the last post, but with good reason.
i've spent the weekend with my cowboy at the ranch - hunting. it's gone from bowhunting (which will last through january) but now it is also muzzleloader (think old school gun powder style) season in oklahoma.

so before we headed out early early (like 1.5 hours before sunrise) on saturday morning, the boys
needed a little target practice on friday night. since it was friday night, i made myself a hand-shaken margarita (via my uncle laynes recipe) and enjoyed the view.

that is, until the boys were done and i picked up my boyfriends 223 (handed-down to him from his grandmother) and out shot them both!!
girls rule, boys drule?!

MOVING MUSTANGS

there are many pretty, naturally pretty things about the ranch. but there is one highlight that is beautiful time after time- no matter what time of year it is. its the wild mustangs.
they mesmerize me time and time again. their raw beauty, untouched and untamed demeanor is truly fascinating.
but this week on the ranch, i was the only one who thought all of the above thoughts. merely because i was not the one trying to move these beautiful creatures from one end of the ranch to the other. one thing about wild mustangs is that they like to do the exact opposite of what you want them to do. like you get them running and one direction and out of the blue they will turn 90 or even 180 and run in the exact opposite way... making the process of moving them to where you want them time consuming and frustrating. who would have thought these wild creatures can figure out your plan after you've tried moving them to where you want them to go after just a time or two?! smarty pants.

i did not have my zoom lens with me on this outing, but i am loving how the wide-angle captures the bigger picture and scope of the amount of horses being moved at one time!

gosh, i still think they are such stunning and majestical animals.
stubborn, sly and all!
