BABES AND MONOGRAMS

it has started. seasons are changing. from wedding to baby season that is!
yes, its true. its time to move from bridal showers and bachelorette parties to baby showers, diapers and spit cloths? seems crazy, but here's to making the transition gracefully and in style!

recently a sweet friend of mine, whom i met at the sheridan french photo shoot two summers ago gave birth to a beautiful baby boy!!! the announcements were quite possibly the most darling birth announcement i ever did see- you will see what i mean when you click on that link!

i knew i wanted to send something to the beautiful mama... just a little treat that would make her smile and let her know i was thinking about her and her handsome new blessing.
so i made a few personalized spit cloths- monogramed anything is ok in the south;)

heres what i did:
cloth diapers from target
vintage linen material from an estate sale for $3
lace trim from my (way too large) lace stash
and the monograms are thanks to my sister who is working here this summer!!
-->check out SewCuteInStitches on etsy... they do amazing custom work<--

these turned out better then i thought for not having a plan.
which is why there is not step-by-step pictures series... i really just flew by the seat of my pants on this one...
they may not be perfect, but they are made with love!

watching the sunset behind the ranch is amazing, theres nothing to block the view and its like an open canvas for God to get to work on a 'watercolor painted' sky!
the above pictures are pure, all natural, no filter kinda goodness.... we took a hand in hand stroll to our favorite spot to watch the sunset on the ranch and i just had to share these beauties with you guys!!

are you a sunset fanatic too?! share your instagram name below so i can find your favorite sky captured on film! i am loving the alaska skies the beautiful mallorie owens has been posting!!!

SHIPPIN' AT SUNRISE

its that time of year again... out with the old and in with the new. cattle that is.
around july the cattle from the winter get shipped off to another ranch, and a new batch of summer cattle come in and will stay through september (ish).
with the days heating up very early, it means the work days start before sunrise to be done before the real heat of the day sets in.
so right at sunrise the cowboys rode out, gathered the cattle and got em ready to ship off. i met them back at the pins (where they are sorted, counted and loaded on to the trucks) to snap a few pictures to share with y'all!
the pictures above are from the first few loads, the pictures below are from the last few loads they shipped that day, at another location. this was only the first of a few, hot, and long days of shippin'!
with the last load heading out, thats a wrap.... at least for today!

HAY-DAY

fact, sp and i both love a good sunset. when we are not together we send sunset pictures to each other to share the beauty!
around the ranch, when the sun sets so does the heat.. normally dropping over 20 degrees which makes for semi cool and enjoyable summer nights out doors. so a few nights ago just before sunset, we went outside to take it all in on top of the freshly stack hay bails! it made for several laughs when the dogs decided to join us and chase each other on top of the bails!
here's to enjoying the simple things, stopping to enjoy mother nature and God's beautiful water-painted skies... and to summer!

A NOT SO MUDDY 'MUD ROOM'

as you know, if you have been following the blog for a while now, my boyfriend is a cattle rancher in oklahoma. what you don't know yet, is that the house he currently is living in has been lived in by many a few family members and ranch hands before him. which means several layers of paint (covering up 70s wallpaper!) and a few area of the house that have not been updated in a while.
the 'mud room'/ laundry room is one of the room that was in need of a little facelift... so we brainstormed and came up with a few easy DIY projects we could get done in just a few days to give this room a new look!
to do:
take out old carpets
remove wood panel/hooks and shelving around the room
paint!!
create easy and more storage
build bench/ coat rack
place to store boot (tall cowboy boots) and shoes
below are a few shots to 'show off' the finished project!
it's by no means perfect, but it is way more functional and has better use of the small space.

-we found linoleum floors under the layers of carpet, which is easy to clean with all the muddy boots that come through the door (and until we are ready for new flooring this will do the trick!)

-we built the bench/coat rack/ shoe storage unit with 1x12s and added support with simple (and really cheap) 90degree angles. we measured the bench to be higher than average to fit the tall boots under.

-the shelving above the washer/dryer are also 1x12s and are mounted with larger angles to support the weight. we decided to leave the angles exposed since the 'galvanized look' matched the clock and hooks

- the baskets and milk crates, hardware, (new light fixture, not shown) and building materials were all found at lowe's
-- the hooks are satin knickel (3-hooks) and we measured for them to fit and hold cowboy hats
-the clock is a target find!

-the paint color is one shade lighter than 'sage mountain'... but i forgot the name! oops!
(i found the color i wanted at benjamin moore, but went to sherwin williams for a color match since they were having a 30% off summer sale!! bargain shopper at heart!)
