THE JOSHUA CODE | WEEK 39

w e e k -  t h i r t y  n i n e

'For as the body without the spirit is dead,
so faith without works is dead also.'

j a m e s  2 : 2 6
. . .

FAITH AND WORKS ACCORDING TO JAMES
Some have accused James of attempting to answer Paul in this passage. Since James wrote his letter in 48 AD and Paul did not write the Roman letter until at least 58 AD, this theory has no merit. James and Paul were coming at the same issue from different perspectives. Paul was writing to the Judaizers who were saying that one had to add works of the law to faith in order to receive salvation. Thus his emphasis was on faith alone as the basis for salvation. Paul was arguing for his primacy of faith. James, on the other hand, was writing to people who went to the other extreme.
They claimed to have faith but, in reality, had only intellectual assent. Therefore, his emphasis was on what Jesus called the 'fruit' of our faith. James was simply arguing for the evidence of faith.

FAITH AND WORKS ACCORDING TO PAUL
Paul consistently emphasized that no one enters God's kingdom except by faith and by faith alone. James was in agreement with him. He began his letter saying, "[God] chose to give us birth through the word of truth" (James 1:18 NIV). Here in the second chapter, James was simply reinforcing the point that good works are the natural response of true saving faith. He was not saying that works are the requirement for salvation, but that they are the result of our salvation.

"As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead." It is not a faith with works at issue here, but a faith that works. Paul reminded us that "we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10, emphasis added)/ We are saved by faith alone, but faith that saves is never alone.

As you memorize this verse, meditate on the relationship between faith and works. And remember, it is a faith that works that pleases God.

MOMMY MUST HAVES

baby must haves

one || two || three || four || five || six || seven || eight || nine || ten || eleven || twelve

happy friday friends!
around these parts, it has been the year of the baby.. or more like babies! babies everywhere!!
when your not one of them having the babies, you get to watch your friends go first and see what works, what doesn't work, learn - watch, and find all the cute and more importantly 'functional' items!

the first set of 'functional' items is inspired by my dear friend kendall, whom i met in yoga-teacher -training two years ago, and from their we built a wonderful friendship! and just one month ago today, she gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl!
i asked kendall to help me put together a list of a few things that have helped her make the first month with a tiny human a little easier…
kendall's top three mommy-must-haves: wubanub , mod swad, and the puj tub

this next set of little-lovelies, are from me following new mommies on instragram and those new mommies loving on some local etsy shops and inspirational mommies who have taken what they have leaved from having little ones into a little business! (was that confusing enough for you?!)
two of my favorites from this set are for sure the antler blankets and the gold-polkadot headbands!

CURRENTLY LOVING - PRINTS

currently loving - print

D R E S S E S : one \\ two \\ three \\ four \\ five \\ six \\ seven (on sale!)

S H O E S : eight \\ nine (on sale!) \\ ten (on sale!) \\ eleven \\ twelve \\ thirteen

hello fall, hello pretty new prints to welcome fall!
layers, layers and more layers are my favorite for the fall. layering dresses with pretty sweaters and blazers are a fun way to kick off the first few cool-ish days of the season.
these prints mixed with fun heels have me feeling all kinds of fall-inspired today.

my fav combo is dress number four with heels number nine!
giving up the easy, go-to, summer maxi is something i miss most in the fall. but in texas we thankfully get a few warm days in the fall months - that's when you will for sure catch me in a maxi paired with a jean jacket and comfortable sandals.

MASTER WHITES

master bedroom
rug || lamps || bedding || baskets || nightstand || jars || vases 7&8 || curtains || mirror || mount

whites, whites and more whites are my ultimate master bed room dream.
but all white, everywhere would probably not turn out like i would like it to...
so im thinking a little gold hints, with something a little masculine and for sure a mounted deer (or the likes) will ground the room and make it feel more inviting, less lofty and definitely more realistic!

there is one thing white i am not going to budge on.. white linens.
white linens to me, scream cozy, comfortable and dreamy!
white linens from peacock alley are definitely a splurge, but for a day duvet covers, bed quilts and shams its just too good to pass up. plus they are dallas based - shopping local and loving on some good ol' texas folk makes for ice cream on the homemade blueberry pie!

sometimes you can get lucky enough to spot some peacock alley amazingness at
tuesday morning. and when you do its like finding gold!!

THE JOSHUA CODE | WEEK 38

w e e k -  t h i r t y  e i g h t

'Yea, though I walk through the valley of shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.'

psalm 23:4
. . .

FACT # 1 : DEATH IS A SURE THING
Death is sure. It is certain.
Note carefully David's words: 'I walk through the valley'. He walked. He didn't run towards death. He didn't crawl, as though he wanted to postpone it as long as possible. He was not dragged toward it. He simply walked. He knew death could not be avoided; it is a sure thing.

FACT # 2: DEATH IS A SOJOURN
David indicated that he walked through the valley. It was not his final destination. It was only a temporary passage, a sojourn. He knew the road was not a dead end with no way out. He knew it was not a cul-de-sac that got him nowhere. For David - and for us- death is simply a sojourn. We do not walk in the valley. We do not stay in the valley. We walk through the valley.
Death is a sure thing, but it is also only a sojourn. It is not our final destination.

FACT #3 DEATH IS A SHADOW
Solomon reminded us in his Proverbs that 'every word of God is pure' (30:5). Note carefully what David said: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death." No believer in Christ ever walks through the valley of death, only the valley of the shadow of death.
The Lord Jesus, though, walked through the valley of death. For three days and three nights. He walked that valley and then emerged from the empty tomb and said; "Behold... I have they keys of death and of Hades (Revelations 1:18 NASB).

While death is a sure thing, it is only a sojourn through a shadow. It is, in a sense, stepping into the light. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life" (John 8:12).

We too need to fear no evil. Why?
Because the Lord is with us, and He has conquered death, hell, and the grave!

As you memorize this verse, meditate on the fact that, through His own death and resurrection, the Lord Jesus made a way when there was not way for us. We need not fear death. We only walk through the valley of the shadow of death... and Jesus is with us!

EVERYDAY OFFICE STYLE

my new favorite segment on the blog is for sure the 'everyday office style' once a week.

for one, i have to get creative; not wearing the same outfit over and over since i am sharing it on the blog. and two it makes me try new combinations... like to see how some summer pieces can roll into fall, by just changing a few accessories.
for that very reason i have been loving on accessory jane and her beautiful new website!
her pretties and little bobbles make for the perfect outfit-topper-offer - that's a word, right?!

here is what i wore this week:
LOOK ONE
watch (similar / similar)
bracelet (accessory jane)

 LOOK TWO
bracelet (accessory jane)
watch (similar / similar)
bangles | gold / black
pants
LOOK THREE
heels zara (similar / similar)
necklace nordstrom (similar)
skirt (zara) (similar)
LOOK FOUR
earrings anthropologie (similar)
anthropologie dress (similarsimilar)
sandals (similar / similar)

i think look 3 was my favorite this week!
i felt the 'put together' and it was the most mixing of old and new.
however, i need to point out the ankle pants in look 2... there's is a first time for everything....!

CURRENTLY LOVING - BLUSH AND CHARLOTTE TILBURY

currently loving - blush

1 clare v | clutch // 2 marc by marc | bracelet // 3 milly | skirt // 4 gorjana | earring
5 vans | sneakers // 6 nixon | watch // 7 kate spade | journal  8// essie | nail polish
9 swarovski | warp bracelet // 10 mac | lipstick // 11 kate spade | note cards // 12 rag&bone | jeans

i know fall is just around the corner, and i should be more excited about fall colors, like cranberry, hunter green, and blacks, but i must be needing to get a little more summer color out of my system! maybe it's while the 'tan' is still there, i feel like blush is still ok?!

this weeks 'currently loving' all came together because of this clare v clutch.
i started checking out clare v's collection a few months and have had them on my radar every since! it reminded my of my 'go-to' clutch i got a few years ago while traveling in Australia - its a cowhide clutch, with gold splatter specs on it.
kind of like the cowhide rugs with metallic that are everywhere right now.

***

staying on the 'blush' tend...
the product packaging for Charlotte Tilbury's make up line is just gorgeous!

charlotte tilbury
wonder glow // the retoucher // beach stick // color chameleon // bronze & glow

have your heard.... ?!
'The world's number #1 makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury has launched her highly anticipated revolutionary beauty line in the Americas. From her signature cat eye look, to the much hyped ‘Full Fat’ mascara and ‘Magic Cream’ made using her secret recipe – each product is packaged with expert tips for effortless application and transformative results.' -net a porter

i've heard such great things about this line! can't wait to try them out and see if it truly lives up to all the hype! i am personally not a massive makeup girl - think more along the lines of: i have an under 5-minute routine when it comes to make up in the morning. so when i heard that charlotte tilbury's line caters to the simple, yet beautiful- routine i was all ears!

THE JOSHUA CODE | WEEK 37

w e e k -  t h i r t y  s e v e n

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

r o m a n s 6 : 2 3
. . .

THE BAD NEWS
The Greek word for sin is best understood as 'missing the mark'. The word picture describes an archer who shoots his arrow at the target and misses the bull's-eye. We all fins ourselves here as 'all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23 KJV). We have all missed the mark, and the bad news is that its cost, or wage, is death.
The Bible says, "the wage of sin is death." It is strange how many men and women sin, thinking it is going to pay dividends of fun and pleasure. But Satan is a liar. Sin pays its wage all right, but its wage is death, which is separation from all that is good.
Payday is coming someday. That is the bad news. When we miss the mark, its costs us greatly.

THE GOOD NEWS
But the good news is this: "the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." It is a gift, a free gist that cannot be earned nor deserved. [...] A gift is the opposite of a wage. We earn and deserve our wages. We don't earn or deserve a gift. If we did, it would be a reward ans not a gift.

How is this all possible? We still have to deal with the bad news. Jesus made that way possible for us by dealing with the bad news. Himself. two thousand years ago on a Roman cross outside the city walls of Jerusalem, Jesus took the bad news and became sin for us. Yes, the wages of sin is death, and He died our death on the cross, paying the penalty for our sin. He paid the price, so now we can finish the verse with this good news, "but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
He made a way out of no way. Our part is to receive this God-provided and free gift by faith alone in Him.

What a difference there is in these two bits of news. The bad news is that sin is costly, and it has a wage attached to it. The good news is that eternal life is free. It is God's gift to us!

As you memorize this verse, meditate on the incredible price that Jesus paid for your sin. When we were on undeserving, He made a way for us to receive the greatest gift ever given, "eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

EVERYDAY OFFICE STYLE

deciding what to wear, besides yoga pants or any other desirable 'working from home' attire has lead me to re-evaluate my closet, and love on some old favorites that were almost ready to gather dust!
the office i am in now goes by a 'business casual' dress-code, so i have deemed my jean jacket my 'summer blazer'. it has been the perfect 'fix' to take some of my wedding attire dresses to office appropriate!
here is what i pulled together this week!
LOOK ONE
dress (milk & honey) similar/similar
bracelets (accessory jane
LOOK TWO
dress anthropologie (similar)
wedges (similar)
the pendant is a family heirloom - a silver dollar from my great grand father :)
LOOK THREE
heels (similar)
dress (similar)
bracelet (c/o accessory jane)
LOOK FOUR
bracelets (similar/similar)
heels (similar/similar)
scarf (similar/ similar)
skirt (zara) (similar)
stackable rings are custom made by gem classics !

if i keep this series up, you will for sure be seeing some repeats and not-so-current options.. but i will do my best to find something as similar as possible for you:). i love mixing old with the new.. so an old skirt with a new top...or dress you wore to a wedding two years ago with a new blazer or jean jacket- why not!

THE JOSHUA CODE | WEEK 36

w e e k -  t h i r t y  s i x
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witness to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

a c t s  1 : 8

. . .

THE WHO OF EVANGELISM
"But you shall... be witness to Me." This challenge to take the gospel to the world is one Jesus gives to all of us. [..]
Non of us is exempt from this basic element of Christian living; that is to share the good news!

THE WHAT OF EVANGELISM
 You shall receive what? Power!
Jesus used the word for power from which we got our word dynamite.
We need this power to be His witness.

THE WHEN OF EVANGELISM
When did this power come upon this group of believers? When the Holy Spirit came upon them. There is no such thing as a Christian without power. When you receive Christ, you have the Holy Spirit. He takes up residency in you. Thus, you have power.

THE WHY OF EVANGELISM
The Holy Spirit enables us to be witness. This is the very reason why we have power - to be His witness. There should be no such thing as a Christian who is not a witness. If you are save, we have Christ. If we have Christ, we have the Holy Spirit. If we have the Holy Spirit, we have power. And if we have power, we will be Jesus' witness!

THE WHERE OF EVANGELISM
Jesus told us to take His good news across the city, across the country, across the continent, and, yes, across the entire cosmos. Here is total participation: all of us are to be witnesses. And here is total penetration: we are to go "to the ends of the earth". The gospel will never find its final destination until it is shared with every person on the planet.

As you memorize this verse, meditate on the awesome power that resides within each of us who has placed our faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone. It would do us well to also memorize the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Then get back to the basics of being Jesus' witness by making disciples, marking them by baptism, and teaching them to observe all He has commanded.
