WEEKEND

{via}

seriously, this weekend is going to be all about favorite coffee in hand, a little DIY and sleep.
still not over this summer cold, so rest is calling my name - and with this crazy 'cold front' in dallas right now, it is perfect 'crawl back in bed' weather!!

+ + 'till midnight is TONIGHT in dallas. a social media scavenger hunt and a screening of katherine hupburn's 'bringing up baby' with a side of live music. sounds like a wonderful summer night out!
plus its free admission for all!

+ + if you've never been, but always wanted to go… the weather this weekend could not be more perfect. The OLD RED LUMBERYARD is THIS weekend in McKinney, TX.
Just a short drive up 75 and so many treasures await!

happy weekend y'all.

ROUND TOP | SPRING 2014

Twice a year there is a massive gather. a gathering of junkers, collectors, junk gypsies and diggers alike in Round Top, Texas.
Have you been or heard of this heaven before?!
If you are a 'junker' and have thought of going, but have not taken the leap... its time.
Mark your calendars for the fall 2014 show, book your stay and make your way there. You will not be disappointed. Trust me.

Personally I like to find the best deal in town. And by town, I mean in on of the many fields, where there is junk as far as the eyes can see.
Digging and bargaining for the 'one of a kind' treasure is what its all about!
It's also about the fellow junk gypsies you will meet and come to love, and run into year after year.

But it's also about the down time.
Literally. Down time. There is spotty cell phone reception, if any!
I like getting away for the weekend with girl friends, staying at the coziest of bed and breakfast', walking for miles to see, touch and smell as much junk as you possibly can, and coming back for drinks, dinner and camaraderie until you can't keep your eyes open anymore!

BEARS, FLEAS AND MORE

this weekend marked baylors 104th homecoming!
the game was against iowa state... and i can honestly say my mind was blown before the game even started.  we drove to waco and stopped for a few big o's before the game!

as we walked up towards the stadium and the now designated tailgating area i was taken back.... when i went to school there, tailgating was iffy. no tents, no big smokers or grills and certainly NO alcoholic beverages of any kind were permitted. now, it was like a big deal. people want to tailgate and all meet up before baylor games.... i could get used to this!
trying to get in the stadium was a different story... there were lines to get in to the stadium.. like there were not enough gates for people to get in on time to see the kick off. and once you were in the stadium, there were funnels of people trying to get to their seats, or lack there of. ya'll never in my baylor days have i seen so many people at a baylor game. it was over sold. people copied tickets and there were not enough seats to accommodate everyone. there were people standing in the isle and walkways... unreal...sic em bears!!!

o.m.p.
which in round top means: oh my pie
this little pie and coffee shop is the cutest you ever did see!
in one of the adorable little houses on round top square you will find royers pie haven
there are not many places to find a good cup of coffee in round top - but this is a must enjoy spot.

you might have heard of royers round top cafe
it's hard to miss when there are only a handful of dining options when in round top.
royers has been around for a good while- known for 'bud' how runs the place and sits on the front porch to take your reservation. and for their amazing pies!

so its no surprise they have expanded and opened this adorable little 'pie haven'!
here you can even order pie for breakfast - pie cookies. savory pies. the list goes on.

we stopped here two mornings for breakfast - the joe does not disappoint.
the 'bobbies' breakfast pie was a little on the dry side but the pie-wiches were unreal.

if you are passing through, or staying for antiques week- this place is a must try!

ROUND TOP || FALL 2013

for the love of junk - round top, texas, is the mecca of junk!!!
and if you love junk, live in the south- its a journey you need to take. add it to your bucket list.

this past weekend was the kick-off to fall antique week in round top and we were there to get our junk fix. it was as humid as you would expect... 95% humidity on the last weekend in september - totally normal. we walked and walked and walked for miles every day through the fields of vendors set up from all over the nation to see, feel, and smell all things old, rusty and peely.
it was amazing.

we did not come home with any major treasures but we had a blast non-the less
and soaked up as much time with the old stuff as possible!

if you are following me on instagram, i documented my gypsy look each day.. somehow forgetting day 3- the junk must have been really good that day!! but the hair down on day one only lasted until we walked the first field, and then the hair went up and stayed up for the rest of the weekend!
this little 'coffee bug' has been coming to round top for years.. the front of this trailer is an old VW bug hooked up to a camper. the guy has made it into a coffee bar! complete with a tip jar to 'slow boat to tahiti' one day!
the fields at la bahia are maybe my favorite place to start.
its not too big - it has amazing dealers and the prices are just right too!!
we stumbled upon a new, darling georgia peach 'kara' who comes down from georgia every year.
her set up is amazing. her style and finds are even better!
this year she loaded up some amazing bolts of fabrics- i wanted them all!!
if your are in or close to tyrone, georgia you have to visit this sweet girl - shes opening her own store!!
follow her on   f a c e b o o k  and   i n s t a g r a m
oh a texas country sunset.... always amazing!
stepping into this venders booth smelt like stepping into an old tackle barn- the old leather, spurs and cowboy finds were so fun to dig though!
and sheds... they were everywhere this year. deer, mule deer, elk, you name it.
they were selling it, decorating with it - all by the pound.
gather as many as you wanted and it was weighed on a big scale ... $13/lbs.
crazy what people find for free put a sale price one!
it was such a fun girls weekend!
the laughter, memories, margaritas and miles walked were all a blast- already counting down the days until the next show. might have to head back in the spring, if fall just seems to far away at that point!
happy junking all you gypsies out there!

PEELY GOODNESS

happy monday morning to you!!
junking and digging for 'junk' is something i love love love to do and inherited from a few generations before me. my great grandfather had garages, workshops, and sheds full of good 'junk' and treasures. you name it he had it. i wish my craving for junk had started before they sold the property he used to live on.. but unfortunately i was too young at the time. good jeans run deep in the lane family though, and it is hard for me to pass up any garage, antique or junk sale along the road or in town. passing by a junk pile, i have to sit on my hands to not jump out of the truck to start digging. true story.
you don't always find something you need to take home, but smelling, touching and rummaging in search for that one treasure is worth it every time!
on friday morning the only thing keeping me from rolling up my sleeves a little higher and digging a little deeper was the fact that there were ticks, snakes and grass too tall.. reaching into a possible snake nest did not sound like fun at all.
i didn't walk away with any treasures this time around- but you never know what might be in the next pile. one mans trash is another mans treasure!

DAY FOURTEEN: HAPPY THINGS

day 14 of the #blogeverydayinmay challenge... and its all about ten things that make you really happy (these are mine, in no particular order):

1: laughing and spending time with family, boyfriend and friends.. laughter is the best medicine!
"A cheerful heart is good medicine" (Prov 17:22)

2: hot coffee, morning wake-up cup or afternoon pick-me-up ....all sounds good.
3: my job- being in a role where i get to be completely humble, where i get to serve others is a true blessing.
4: watching a storm roll in, and listening to the rain pitter patter....
5: being in the country; the calm, quiet and amazing beauty gets addicting!
6: yoga. being on my mat and taking time for myself.
7: fresh flowers. either in the house or in the garden.
8: going 'junkin'. flea markets, estate sales, vintage sales or even a good ol' garage sale.
9: handmade, on the rocks, lane family recipe- margarita. anytime.
10: mexican food, peanut butter, and a home cooked meal.

it was hard to only choose 10.. hence the few that fall in the same category ;)

PEELY PERFECTION

this past weekend was quite the success in terms of food and junking-finds. my dear friend mrs. ellis needed a few pieces for her home... and asked for my help! i'm up for a junking trip, decorating and saturday morning adventure anytime!

details first: 3rd saturday of the month, head to mckinney's 'old red lumber yard' to dig for junking gold. while your there, don't forget to grab a yummy bite to eat with a refreshing tea at PATINA GREEN on the square!

junk

here's what we found:
a beautiful old, peely, with 10 coats of paint pie display hutch.
this pretty hutch now has a home in the dining room of the lovely mr and mrs ellis--filled with wedding china (which had not been unpacked in their 3 years of marriage), stemware and pretty accent pieces to bring the old and modern feel of their home together.

i love how it turned out, don't you?!

Round Top

Round Top, Texas is like no other.
I spent last week working, junking and enjoying the slow pace of life in the Texas Hill Country.

Mama Lane- Thank you for passing on the 'junking-jean'!
Gypsy 'Wagoneers'- Thank you for welcoming into your precious family and introducing me to your fellow junker-friends!
